No compensation after bank card

I am just so very dissappointed in ABSA. My daughter has been an ABSA client all of her banking life, since student days, her father and me have been with ABSA for longer than 40 years. She is a young working person who has to look after her money carefully. Three weeks ago I got a panicked call from her at six in the morning when she realised that someone is drawing money out of her bank account. I immediately stopped her bank card and it turned out to be a where people buy airtime - more than R1000 was missing. She took off from work to go to the bank and they assured her they would repay her this money "within two weeks" as this kind of thing happened very often. Three weeks later she was told that the bank had declined to pay her back, nobody could tell her why! ABSA is the loss of TWO clients (one a premier client and the other on her way there) really worth the reputational risk of R1000? Hello FNB here we come.
