Why do companies still have call centers

Why do companies still have call centres? if only companies knew what an endless frustration call centre operators are? It is almost as if all of south Africa's most incompetent people are working in call centres. Last Thursday my car got damaged in the hail storm that hit Johannesburg. I phoned standard bank insurance to lodge a claim. I told the call centre operator that I work during the day and cannot take my car to a service centre. Guess what the call centre operator did? She had a service centre call me and ask me to bring in my car for an assessment. What is the point in calling call centres if the operators do whatever they feel like doing. Now can we please have a manager contact me to arrange for an assessor to come out to my work to do the assessment?
