I recently had my ATM card swallowed at the ATM on the 21st of October. I left there immediately and went to the bank to block my card since I didn't have my cellphone. I got there and the bank was still closed (before 8:30 am), but i managed to convince them to open for me. About R10, 000 had already been used from my account. They blocked my card and gave me a new one which i used that same day. The following day I lodged a claim and the lady told me my card wasn't blocked. Up to the 15th of November, transactions were still going through on my old card until i had a negative balance of R1, 300, and had no money for the rest of the month. I applied for an overdraft which they declined because of my permit. Now they have just declined my claim because I notified the bank 21 minutes late. (But the bank was closed and i didn't have my phone - how am I protected??). I am really off because when i told this to the consultant, she said she didn't know this. I escalated the issue and they have also rejected the claim for the same reason. How the was i supposed to report on time??
