I went to the Standard Bank branch in Pinelands on 15/11/13 to invest R120 000. The bank staffer involved started badly. He did not introduce himself and appeared supremely indifferent to having a bank client sitting across from him requiring information about the best possible investment for her circumstances. It was rude and surreal. He offered nothing. It was like pulling teeth. Time and again it was I who suggested possible options, who edged him on to find the possible products available - and he never mentioned either interests rates nor administration costs involved until I insisted (which was also when his ignorance shined). Shockingly appalling. He also incorrectly told me I needed a minimum investment of R250 000 to select the MoneyMarket Call Account option. I made my choice in the end, foolishly, since the experts at Standard Bank entrusted with keeping our money safe know nothing and care less. Today, a week later, in an e-mail from Stanlib, I see they are doing the documentation for - wait for it - the WRONG product. Now I fear complaining since that weird person has acces to my accounts. I used to think Standard was a safe bank but with staff like this it cannot be.
