I had golf clubs and other smaller items from my house. Whilst extremely annoyed, I was relieved that I had house contents insurance and assured that I would be able to replace my equipment.
They had to record contents of my ENTIRE house. I think this was an attempt / hope from Discovery that I would be under insured which would give them a way out of settling the claim. I was actually over insured so once this was established it was never spoke of again.
They informed me they would pay out less than 1/4 of the value. Reason - no forced entry. Forced entry = full replacement. Other words they don't believe me as there is no proof of. Settlement offered would probably enable me to buy a driver and a few golf. I am extremely unhappy about the small payout and they keep saying "can't do anything more". Why have contents insurance if you can only replace a very small portion of what you lose? I have a few policies with Discovery and have been paying over R5k/month for nearly 2 years, which by the way is what they offered as settlement. I will be searching for a better provider immediately knowing about the deceptive "piece of mind" Discovery Insurance offers me.
