Last year I informed African Bank that I am no longer employed and requested that my debit order be stopped until such that I become employed again. To my surprise, on the 20th, they tried to deduct money from my account! This resulted in me owing my bank more then R 1000-00 bank charges (for unpaid debit orders). I made numerous requests to them NOT to deduct money from my account, as I have NO money. This continued for months. Every time a consultant would call me, I would make the same request over and over! At one stage, I had to pay my bank more then R2 000-00 for unpaid items. I tried to stop the debit orders myself, in which case African bank changed the amount of the debit order and the problem continued. I recently started working again, and I made an arrange to pay at a store in PE (because don't feel comfortable with them debiting my account. And to my surprise, THEY DID IT AGAIN! They took my money again without my consent! Is this legal? Can they take my money even though I asked them NOT to?
