I have been a Standard Bank customer for years. I recently decided to travel to Vietnam for a few months, I did inform the bank I will be leaving the country and using my debit card in Vietnam.
Unfortunately I was pick pocketed and my wallet was with my debit card inside. I called the bank and stopped my card. I then was in a situation, no card so no access to my funds. I called the bank and asked if they could somehow assist me to access my funds in my account, bearing in mind, that I could no longer access internet banking either since my card had been stopped. Firstly I was passed around from department to department, costing me a fortune in phone calls since I'm still in Asia. I then ended up speaking to the branch manager at Pinetown branch where my account is held and after chasing her up on several occasions got a reply that they can't help me because I need to come to the bank in person and apply for a new card. What I'm in Vietnam, how am I suppose to do that? I am now stuck in a foreign country without access to my money and this is really a urgent situation and they can't seem to be bothered! I'm appalled at their bad service and couldn't care, no worry attitude!
