My retired father's Standard Bank debit card was taken from him via an ATM . He put his card into the ATM machine (Retail Park Centre, Boksburg) and thought that it had been swallowed. On the way home his cellphone beeped, notifying him of transactions from his account. When he got home he accessed his internet banking and noticed that a big amount had been transferred into a bottle store in the South of Johannesburg.
After numerous phone calls to the Standard Bank line, he was advised that he can't get his money back as his claim had been rejected?? Surely it is the bank's responsibility to ensure that their ATM's can't be tampered with. Elderly people are vulnerable to these and this money should have been paid back to my father. My dad's claim was a legit one, we have the name of the bottle store and your investigations were obviously not thorough. Your staff were most unhelpful and made him feel as if he was the criminal and not the victim.
