Standard Bank Moving Backwards!

On a recent trip to Namibia I needed to use my credit card to pay for something. The machine declined the card and I was unable to use my credit card. I found this very strange and due to the lack of cash on me it became a huge inconvenience. As I needed to use the credit card for the rest of the trip I decided to log into my online profile only to find that my credit card was closed. I called the card division and they advised me that they had upgraded my card and thus closed my account. My initial thought was that this could not be correct as I did not authorise a new card or request an upgrade. How does a bank just close your account without notification or without your permission?

I have just been to the bank to collect my new card and I will need to also update all my payments and debtors.

I think it is time to change banks!
