I have been a loyal graduated Standard bank customer for more than a decade. I have a permanent teaching job since 2000.
In 2005, I had a savings and credit card account with them as well as R200 000 in a fixed deposit. When I applied for a home loan of R350 000, they rejected my application and I had to go to Absa who gave me a loan without any hesitation.
This year, I re-applied for a student loan (I borrowed R20 000 last year) but was refused again. The reason from them -"irregular payment". I was so upset, as I pay more than the minimum amount on my accounts most months although some of my accounts are paid one or two days after the due date. I regularly receive thank you letters for the way I manage my accounts with increased credit facilities. I never miss a payment. I requested a credit check, which showed no judgements or notices what so ever against me, but Standard Bank refuses me a student loan. I will take all my business banking to FNB. Standard Bank: you make me feel like a criminal. If that is the way you treat your loyal customers with permanent jobs, I don't want to be part of it anymore. E Groble
