I am a young medical professional that purchased a new Fiat 500 1.4 Lounge during March 2013. First for Women (FFW) offered me the best insurance premium at R812.74pm at the time of purchase (I was 24), so I decided to take out insurance with them.
On Thursday, 22 August 2013, I was involved in an unfortunate accident with my car. I phoned FFW on Friday about the claim and spoke to Lebo, who informed me that my excess would be R3 800 plus an additional R1 000 as I was claiming within the first 6 months since taking out the insurance. An assessment was booked and I was told that I would be contacted the following Wednesday. On Wednesday I phoned Lebo. Another colleague answered, saying that the damage was quoted at over R11 000 but that my case was being investigated as I had "" by saying that I had not taken out comprehensive insurance on my name before (I drove a student car that was insured on my father's name 2006-2013).
I decided to get another quote for the damage from an accredited facility. The new quote was for R4 604.46 - LESS THAN MY EXCESS.
I am appalled. I will be cancelling my insurance with FFW soon, as well as have my vehicle repaired at my own cost.
