Having received a UCount membership number, I have dutifully used my Standard Bank Garage Card - after all directly linked to my Cheque account & Cheque Card - to purchase in excess of R 1500-00 worth of petrol at Caltex Service stations in order to gain the UCount benefit. On questioning why no such benefit reflects on my statement I was told that Garage Cards are not valid with UCount rewards. On advising UCount that I had at no stage been advised of other cards including Garage Cards being invalid, I was fobbed off by being advised as follows: "I am really sorry about this. You should have been made aware of the fact that you will not earn points should you use your garage card. Unfortunately this is the way the program has been set up."
This sort of dismissive attitude is not the way to commence a campaign such as UCount and is in all likelihood in conflict with law.
