I have had to put in a claim.

I was firstly shocked to find out that my excess increased from R3500 last year to R8500 this year. Thats like 140% increase whilst my premiums increased by less then 15%. I was stupid enough not to check my policy document when it came in the post, hence I accept the excess now of R8, 500. But my stupidity is no excuse for their unethical way of raising the excess.

Secondly, they are refuting my claim because their assessor believes the repair can be done for just under R8500 and therefore, since it is less then my access, the claim is refuted. However, they cannot guarantee that I will be able to get the repair done at this price (even at their service proviers) since they get reduced prices from their service providers. So far, all my quotes have been between R20k and R27k for full repair and R8, 379 just for the body work, excluding the repairs to the shocks and other mechanical parts. Bottom line, easy way to refute a claim!

Thirdly, I must now make arrangements to collect my vehicle which the insurance towed to their lot. The car cannot be driven. Why could their assessor not come to my house to access the damage.

Shame! Something amiss!
