Mutual & Federal
Incompetence from M&F

I was in motor-vehicle collision about a month and half ago. Claim documents were submitted the day following the collision. The assessor took a week before he could actually make it to the panelbeater to inspect the car. When he did arrive, he submitted his report the following day The car was a write-off. M&F headoffice said they had not received the report from the assessor and it took them a further week before they could actually respond to the claim. From the onset I made it clear to my broker and the assessor that I want to retain salvage of the car because the car has great sentimental value to me. However this message never got through to headoffice despite it being it being on the assessors report. When they did eventually come back to me with figures, the salvage claim is in the region of 40% of the value of the vehicle. Other companies charge in the region of 10 to 20 percent. Further because I intend to retain the car, they are not willing to pay for towing and storage. The storage charges are mostly as a result of M&F not responding promptly, and now I'm expected to pay for this. All in all, I'm actually paying more for my car than the actual value of the claim.
