I opened up 2 new accounts at Absa about 4 days before the end of May in a pursue to get a better rating when I applied for a home loan. I closed my last standing account at Absa about 2 months prier which was a credit card account but felt that because I was a long standing customer in the past I would get a better bond deal if I re-open a cheque acc as well as a credit card acc. Long story short, I was only offered a 81 % bond, and then moved on to other banks for my home loan application. Both the new accounts wasn't used and yesterday the 26th of June 2013 I went to the Strand branch to close both and settle outstanding fees. Hey actually charged me a full months's acc fee on the cheque account which is R109, 00 as well as another R109, 00 for the month of june.
How could they charge a full month on a acc that was opened 3 days before the end of a month. Surely I should only pay pro rata for that remainder of May? Any case, I had to cough up R480 odd rand for 2 account's closures that has never been used and which was opened in good faith that I would get the benefit of the doubt. I am really unhappy with their staggering fees eg just saying hello to the teller costs me R5, 95!!?
