Suppose to take 2 working days

I've applied online to upgrade my personal loan and after more than a week of no reply I finally went into the branch on the 22nd of May to sort it out. The staff was nice and friendly and everything was sorted out, after the online staffed had EVERYTHING on my account and affordability wrong. Then I was told that it would take 2 working days (48 hours) for the loan to be approved or not and it's now 7 working days later and I haven't heard anything. I've phoned on monday (3 working days after application) and was only told that it's the credit department that still has to work through it. What's the point of making a loan if it takes weeks to go through? and what is the point of promising clients it will only take 2 days when it would take weeks?
When can I expect this to be finilized?
