I have an FNB cheque account that was linked to a Smart Device in 2011. In 2012 I defaulted on payments. FNB handed me over to attorneys. The collection agency made an agreement to debit R500 from my bank account until the device was paid up. I noticed that I was getting double-debited for the device by FNB and the attorneys at some point. When I queried I was told that the debt collection agency was only appointed to collect the arrears and the matter was settled. The collection agency sent me a settlement letter and stopped debits and FNB resumed the R200 device monthly subscription. I have now been sent a device settlement account owing R2499. I queried this and I was requested to e-mail the device settlement letter from the collection agency. l was told that it was sent to relevant people. I waited 4 days until I got a phone call from a very arrogant agent who told me the settlement letter was a mistake - no apology or explanation. I found this condescending and disrespectful.
I have asked for clarity in an e-mail dated 8 May 2013 - 10 days later (18 May 2013) I am yet to receive a response.
