First National Bank
INSECURE PLATINUM CHEQUE CARDS

STILL WAITING ACTIONS FOR THIS MATTER:

I have enquired with couple of FNB centres, including Premier Suite, as to why the new chip Platinum Cheque Cards don't require PIN when swiped at certain POS devices. This is EXTREMELY risky for us the customers as these cards are not saved to have. At the Cresta branch, one of the staff members even confessed that she used her card at Checkers and no PIN was requested. I received a shocked response from FNB Premier Suite banker, as s/he stated that I should tell the merchant not to swipe but to insert my card on the POS. FNB people, I am a customer and I am not trained or employed to tell how the merchant should used their POS that you gave them. Why provide the merchant with POS that required no PINs when transacting? I am still waiting for someone from FNB to tell me what actions are they undertaking to prevent this risk on customers. I don't know how many people are aware of this issue, but the sooner it gets resolved the better. I am extremely disappointed on how FNB keep promoting awareness about, but they fail to act on this insecure chip card matte
