Standard Bank
Student ATM Card causes hardship

On the 8th of April 2013 my 18 year old daughter, a student in Pietermaritzburg, 700 km's from home, attempted to withdraw money from the Standard bank ATM outside the Hayfields Standard Bank branch. The machine requested the pin number and then nothing happened for a while. She pressed the cancel button and the card was not returned. While she was still standing in front of the ATM she started receiving sms's telling her that her money was being withdrawn. She went straight into the bank within minutes and reported the problem, but to this day, one month later, she has still not been re-funded. And to add insult to injury, she was charged for a replacement ATM Card! As a student her budget is very tight and she has experienced true hardship as a result of loosing her entire month's money. This certainly does not encourage her to have confidence in her bank when she has such a bad experience so early in her life.
