My father was admitted at Helen Joseph on the 29th May'2013, we waited 2 months for his blood test and biopsy to came back. He was then diagnosed with lung cancer. The treatment there was horrific. If my father complained about pain or anything they would write in his file "patient full of complaints". The doctor said things like "I want to get rid of this man", fortunately my dad understood him and answered him back in his language he was shocked. When I complained about his food as he could only eat soft foods, they would give him soft foods for the next delivery and then back to normal. We constantly had to bring soups and yoghurts to hospital for him to at least get anything in his body. When I complained about his dry mouth and asked why did they not yet put a drip on him as he could not keep any food or liquids down they said that the patient did not complain, which means to me that they are not doing basic observations as they should. When I complained a day before his death about his feet that were swollen they just simply said that he is not a patient of ward 19 anymore and that ward 15 is waiting for an open bed for him.
