Refund of Air tickets

Myself and my wife had booked and paid tickets with Kulula from Durban to Johannesburg, booking No. IGTTRM, however, on the 4th November 2013 we were advised that my brother in law was severely ill and we had to fly overseas to Cyprus as a matter of urgency. We have proof of flight details in order to prove above if is needed
While we were in Cyprus the last thing on our mind to sort out was the Kulula tickets. When we got back to South Africa on 16th November 2013, we wanted to utilize the tickets for our return to Durban, however, we were advised after explaining the situation, that we had to purchase new tickets for the flight back to Durban, even though the original tickets had not yet been used.
We are asking for a refund as it is services which were not utilized and therefore a chargeback would be in order to the Credit Card. If the Service is not delivered then the passenger is not liable for the charges.
