Automatated system vs human interaction

I tried to apply for a Canadian visa by going to the Embassy and was informed that it can only be done online or the application form should be printed from the net and downloaded and printed. i managed to complete the online application and made payment. Went back to the Embassy and they indicated i ought to receive an email by tuesday, 9 July 2013. This didnt happen. I sent them an email, no response. Sent the following email again and still no response.-
Please respond to the below mentioned email. This entire process is extremely user unfriendly. There is absolutely no human interaction. It would help if someone replied.

I explained that i need the visa as my flight is on 19th July 2013 to USA. I need the Canadian visa just for 1 day as i am going on a cruise to Alaska and it stops over in Victoria. If someone could just hear my plea, i'd be most appreciative. The cruise line wont allow me onboard without the visa and other cruise lines dont bother about the Canadian visa and accept guests onboard. My entire trip is dependent on this visa! pls help
