Upgrade Fees

My wife's cellphone contract expires in May but can be renewed now. We popped into the branch and were told that we could upgrade but the cost was R150. The consultant could not explain the need to pay R150 apart from saying that with a new contract a once-off sim connection would have to paid. I don't believe any fee is due because we are continuing an existing contract and the sim is activated already!
