Failure to cancel my contract after 18 months

Around May/June of 2011, I took out a contract at the 8ta in Southgate. Since I did not have 3 months bank statements I could not proceed. Fair enough...
However, in the time it took me to get the bank statements (because I went to the 8ta branch on a Saturday afternoon and had to wait for the bank to open on Monday) I realized that financially I wasn't in the best position to commit to the payment of a two year contract. I then went back to Southgate, after numerous calls from them stating my phone was ready for collection (even though I had still not given them bank statements), and told them that I no longer wanted the contract due to financial constraints. Before leaving (without the phone), I made sure that the staff were able to cancel the contract and I would not be liable for any costs.
After one month, I recieved an invoice. I called the call centre and cancelled again. Then I recieved another invoice. This continued for a year and a half till now (2013) and 5 reference numbers later, the credit bureau is denying me any more credit due to 8ta's incompetence. I cannot express how frustrating it is to have a high risk credit profile for absolutely no reason.
