Disgusted at the repair process

I recently purchased a Samsung S4 on contract from TM and a few months down the line its battery started swelling. I took it to a Telkom mobile store because the device was still under warranty expecting them to replace my battery. Instead of replacing my battery they sent my device in for repairs. Weeks has passed and still no phone!
Today I went to the store, they had no idea how long my device would take. I then phoned 8ta Device Lifecycle Management customer care and the agent was disrespectful and told me to just wait another 15 working days. Please tell me how can a common S4 battery problem can take this long to replace.
