Difficulty in cancelling telkom line

I have to cancel my grandfathers Telkom line and visited the waterfall mall Telkom store last week Wednesday to ask what I needed to do. They informed me that it can only be done telephonically and thus I phoned from their branch and spoke to the call centre where I was informed that I needed to send a letter as they cannot do it telephonically. Why could the person at the branch not tell me that? Then I sent a mail on Monday this week and to date have not had any response to confirm if was received. Today I phoned their call centre and spoke to Zanele Dlamini who informed me that the supervisor is not in and she is not able to confirm if they recieved the e-mail but the address I used is correct. Upon me asking how long it will take, she confirmed anything from 7 to 14 working days. Now my gradfather is turning 90 next year and she then said if she could talk to him she could cancel it telephonically. He is deaf and thus not able to talk to her - so is this a consistant message and how long will eh still have to pay for a service he si unable to use?
