I have a 1Mbps ADSL uncapped subscription line from Telkom that I have had from February this year. The main use for the line is gaming, so I don't need high bandwidth, only low latency/ping. The first two months I had excellent service, with pings to EUW under 210 ms, and to Cape Town under 40 ms any time of the day. In March, pings shot up to about 3500ms (I'm not kidding) to EUW, and about 1200ms to Cape Town. I even did a local ping to Rosebank, and even that was 800ms. I called Telkom to report the problem, and sure enough, within a few days a tech was dispatched to my home. He did something with the local exchange and the problem went away for about two days.
Today, I logged my 5th consecutive complaint about the high ping in my area. Telkom does'nt seem to be interested in long term solutions for their problems, as the "fix" for this always only lasts for a couple of days at best. I'm tired of trying to explain latency to call center agents (Yes, they do not know what it is) and 2 out of the 5 times the problem was logged as a "slow line". I'm sick of Telkom's very, very poor ADSL service- fix my line or you will lose me and all my friends as customers!
