Data delay on Galaxy S3

I use my Samsung Galaxy S3 on a daily basis. I use WhatsApp and my email constantly, but lately there is a delay in receiving my messages.
I had this problem a few weeks ago and I had to phone the call centre 5 times to resolve the matter. Each consultant had a different setting for my APN. My phone was ok for a while and now I have the same problem again. My mobile data is searching for signal between 3G and E permanently, but there is still a delay. I have to turn my phone off and restart it in order to get my mail and messages.

What is going on with MTN? I feel like cancelling my contract and moving to Vodacom, because my Vodacom friends do not have this problem.
