Software upgrade to 3G dongle doesn't work

I've been using my 3G dongle successfully since I got it 16 months ago. When I tried it the other day, it gave a message that the software needed to be upgraded. I followed instructions on Cell C website, but after loading the new software, it wouldn't work at all.

I visited Cell C Waterfront, and asked for their help. I told them this dongle was under current contract with Autopage. The technician spent about half an hour trying various things, and eventually said he would have to send it to technical department as he didn't know how to resolve it. He said it would take about 21 days, during which time he didn't have loan dongle for me, and he indicated there may be charges, and there may be other complications because this is an Autopage contract.

I would like someone senior in Cell C to please resolve this for me immediately, without delay, and at no cost to me. The bottom line here is that my device was working perfectly until Cell C stopped it working and instructed me to upgrade, and after following their instructions, the upgrade failed and does not appear to be a simple thing to resolve. Alternatively, Cell C must replace my dongle.
