Sony Xperia V BER after 12days??

I recently bought a sony xperia V from MTN. reason being it is water resistant. It fell into the zinc on saturday (18-08-2013) because it is supposed to be water resistant, i just took it out and dried it off, but when i looked at the camera i could see water inside it, I immediately took out the battery and wiped off everything and left them to dry. i left it for a whole 24 hours, after that i put the battery back in the fone and tried switching it on again, it went on for a minute or two then it just switched off.. i then took out the battery, put it back in and the phone went on but then this time the screen was quiet dim. I took it back to MTN on the monday and they told me that they cant help me because it is water damaged, at this time they didnt even book it in to check what the problem was YET... so i asked them to book it in and eventually they agreed and it was booked in for repairs. A week later i get a call saying that my fone was BER, how can this be if every morning the alarm that i set still goes off as normal? How can a water resistant phone be damaged due to water?? I feel mislead into buying it the next thing this happens? What now?? should i just listen to my alarm??
