Forcing a custome

I applied for a new phone, i already have a existing account but added a number. I applied for a nokia and got hope a friend said i will make a mistake i must take samsung. I got back the next day and said i want to change it. OK, i was told but i will pay a cancellation fee i said no problem... BUT the amount is the whole contract fee almost 5000.00 i said i didn't even take the phone yet how can i take something I'm not happy with a lady rather not say her name said it is a new rule... i said impossible she gave me a policy that not even she understood i walked out walked in again and said but it different from discussion and showed her. I insisted a cancellation document because it is still within hrs... another lady staid behind after closing and helped me she even made me a copy were the other lady left... still not sure but i feel if this is a new rule i will never upgrade again because now I'm being forced to pay and be unhappy about my product... shouldn't i be happy.
