MTN Insurance impossible to put through a claim

Hi, Over the weekend I was at a funeral so during the service my phone fell came apart and got badly damaged I lost the sim card as well, I checked on mtn's website and it clearly stipulated that if the phone is damaged I need to call their insurance department and also hand in the phone at any mtn store, so I tried calling them the whole weekend I couldn't get through to any consultant, this morning I decided to go to mtn westgate and they told me they cant help me submit a claim to the insurance and they told me to keep calling mtn which I did still to no avail I keep holding for half an hour straight and I still don't get through to any consultant, I found this to be very frustrating I had to even buy a cheap phone and do a sim swap myself because I am expecting important phone calls and I have no means of communication because I cant even get a hold of the insurance to submit my claim. I am really upset because every single month mtn debits my money for insurance yet when I need to make use of it, getting through to them seems to be mission impossible, is this the kind of service that I am being debited for every month???
