Cancellation of contract not actioned

On the 21st Feb 2013 I went into my local MTN branch in Brackenhurst to find out how to go about cancelling my MTN contract. They said they would fax through the paperwork to MTN to do so. This was done on 22nd Feb 2013. I was given reference number 98976182.

On the 6th Apr 2013 I went back to the local MTN branch in Brackenhurst to find out why the contract had not yet been cancelled. No one could give me an answer.

On the 13th Apr 2013 I went back again to the local MTN branch in Brackenhurst to investigate why my account was still being debited. I was told the contract was not cancelled. They then informed me that I would have to pay R211 to cancel the contract. The two ladies at the branch in Brackenhurst showed no interest at all in helping me and when I spoke to the lady in the MTN cancellations department the phone was put down on me.

I feel it is my right as a consumer to cancel my contract when it is at it's end. I contacted the Independent Communications Authority which resulted in the contract being cancelled. However, I am still getting sms's threatening to hand me over for the R211 which wouldn't be owing if MTN had done what they were supposed to.
