Claiming liquid damage on new product

Upgraded at Cell & Satellite at shop 2 Koadri centre Three Rivers Vereeniging. 0164233666.
Received Samsung phone on Saturday 06 April 2013.
Phone became hot and overheated on 17 April 2013 and after battery out and restart freesed and did not work.
Took back to Cell & Satellite on 18 April 2013
Was send for repairs - waited one week phone returned to shop with scraych on screen
phone send back with quire.
Waited 3 weeks and after complaining reveived phone on 22/5/2013 still scratched
Only then informing me that phone is liquid damaged and unrepairable.
Why only not accepting the phone on first return due to scratch now becomes liquid damaged.
The phone was 2 weeks in my possesion and not manhandled or scratched.
I think they scratched the phone and now suddenly claim liquid damage.
Please I want a new phone which i paid for and I did not liquid damage the phone.
