R200 x 24 MTN Data Contract cost R7000 last month

Last year I upgraded my MTN contract and took out a second phone contract. MTN increased my Credit Limit from the R2000 that I had stipulated to R6000 without my consent. In January this year, I took out a R200 x 24 Mobile Data contract (2GB modem) and they increased the Limit again, this time up to R10, 000.00! Both times they didn't request consent or notify me of the change (not even an sms / email).

Last month 28GB was used and this racked up over R7000 in data charges! I don't contest the usage, but if they had notified me of the Credit Limit Increase or that I had reached the limit of my contract bundled data I would have reduced the costs being incurred by using their service.

It is EXTREMELY difficult to check MTN data balances if you're on an iPad. Either call the call center from your phone (toll free if you have an MTN phone) or take out the SIM and put it in an iphone (or other nanosim phone) and dial *141#. 8ta has a simple page to check balances: onnet [dot] 8ta [dot] com. No fuss.

MTN did not request consent to Credit Limit increases & gave no notifications of changes. Isn't this what the National Credit Act and Consumer Protection Act are in place for?
