Virgin Active South Africa
Unfair business policy

Hi All. I am a pensioner - joined Virgin Active eighteen months ago. I included wife and teenage son. In order to kick start membership we would have to pay a lump sum of R595 per person. This qualifies us for infinite (lifetime) membership we had to pay was a monthly subscription. It was also mentioned that in the event I was on Discovery Medical Aid I could enjoy much cheaper rates provided I signed up for The Vitality Benefit. It was understood by me at that time that my son would only receive this benefit as long as he is under vitality. This was all fine. The problem crops up here. Now that he is over 21 and in the process of becomming permanently employed, his company has made it compulsory for him to join their Medical Aid. Meant that he has to get off my medical aid and subsequently will be forfeiting the Vitality benefit. We were told today that in order for my son to continue membership with the club he has to either sighn up a 12 month or 24 month contract. He has an option to either pay monthly or lump sum. What bothers me is that he is having his own medical aid. All subscription fees were paid from my a/c. Nothing else has changed besides m/aid Vitality-SighSigh
