My husband and I are expecting a baby boy within the next 2 weeks. I phoned to enquire what the procedure would be to add him as a dependant on our current medical aid scheme with discovery and also the additional premium. I was then told by the consultant that we will also be paying an additional premium for vitality as he will automatically be added to our vitality membership. When I asked why this is and how he will benefit from the vitality membership I could not be given an answer. Therefore, Discovery will be taking my money monthly for my newborn baby to be added onto our Vitality membership and will gain no benefit from the membership. How is this possible? How is it that they want to tell me that children gain benefit from seeing a free movie or going to the gym, when a child at the age of 0 - 24 months can't even understand a movie?! Is my newborn now also going to be going to the gym?! No one in their right mind will just give a company money if they cannot be told how they will benefit from it! Why should I? Yet Discovery Vitality expects me to pay them additional money for a period of 2 years plus and gain no benefit from it. Why is this?!
