I was given the gift of a pair of shoes from Preview Shoes in Sandton City for my birthday.
I did not like the shoes and decided to return them.
The shoes were bought a week before my birthday so I returned them to the store.
I was told that the store policy does not allow for refunds but that I could get store credit.
I looked around the store and did not find anything I liked as an exchange item.
I then contacted the Head office of the Europa Art Shoes group and was told that a refund is against group policy.
I find this to be unethical and think this may be illegal in consideration of the Consumer Protection Act.
I want a refund for the person who generously bought me the present.
Surely Europa does not want to force people to buy in their stores.
This leaves a poor taste in my mouth and I hope to encourage perspective shoppers not to support this kind of forced consumerism.
I have contacted the ombudsman to see what can be done but would like to ask Europa to behave ethically and just refund the money.
