Identity
Unfair Treatment

My sister and I went into the Identity Store in Somerset West Mall on Saturday. When we walked in, the scanner/alarm at the door went off. We showed a guy, who worked there, in the store a sign to ask what the problem was. He came to us (we were still standing by the scanner) and he told us that we probably had a soft tag in our bags. We only had our handbags with us and had no bags from other stores. We told him that we didnt and he actually took by sister's bag out of her hand and wanted to open it to search through it without her permission. My sister went on to tell him that she would open her own bag and show him what was in there, he didnt need to do it for her. At that time more customers entered the store and the alarm went off again. Not once did he stop those customers (who happened to be white) and go to search their bags (They actually had bags from other stores). It was then that my sister and I decided to leave the store because we were so mad. We are coloured and do not know if that was the reason that we were treated so unfairly. (The guy working there was black). I will never go into Identity again as I feel that my sister and I were both disrespected.
