Fresh Hake fillets are advertised at R 49.99 a kg and whole fresh Hake at R 29.99. I ordered 2 kg of the Hake fillet.
The attendant took a whole fish, weighed it (head and all) then filleted the fish and provided me with the fillets bearing the weight of the whole fish and priced the fillets on the weight of the whole fish. When I queried this I was told that this was the way it was done. I asked for a manager who agreed with me and queried their fish counter. He was told by the fish counter that this was "new rules" by the SHOP MANAGER. When I asked to see the shop manager I was told that he was too busy to be bothered with me now. I think too busy concocting some other dishonest scheme!
This action by FOOD LOVERS MARKET is akin to going to the butcher and discovering that he has his thumb on the scale pushing it down to get the weight up. Not honest at all!
In effect they are charging you R 20.00 a kg to fillet your fish! If that is their intention then they should advertise it as such but they are well aware people will not buy the fish.
Rather drive 2 minutes up the road to My Fish delicatessen in Florida Glen and not get ripped off like this!
