I am a puppy walker for the SA Guide Dogs Association. Puppy walkers care for and raise dogs on behalf of the SAGDA unitl the dogs are - 14 months old. 80% Of a puppy walker's duty is to take the dog everywhere he/she goes to get the dog used to everyday situations and used to any environment. Going to shops/centres/schools/restaurants, etc are a daily routine for these dogs. Permission is always requested the first time the dog dog enters any store. I find that - 95% of stores, restaurants and establishments have no problem for the dogs to enter their establishments and are Guide Dog Friendly. The odd one out in my experience is Pick & Pay Stores. I have been refused entry to P&P Terrace road, P&P Hypermarket Greenstone and P&P Edenvale during the past 4 months. I have asked and was granted permission by P&P Head Office and all 3 store managers to enter their stores with the guide dog. Pity they do not tell their staff. I was refused entry again today and physically man handled at their Edenvale store. I will now shop elsewhere and send my loyalty card back. If blind people are not welcome at P&P, neither am and I will announce this to everyone on my 68 websites.
