On wednesday we went to Baby City to buy me an electrical Avent breastpump.
On the shelves there was one 2 brands with electrical pumps - a brand I did not know and 1 avent pump. The Avent pump was priced at R1799 but the packaging was severly damaged and opened and it was very clear that this specific pump was handled by many people to look and touch; but everyone took a sealed box when it came to buying. However; the pump itself looked ok and I thought that with a good sterilisation it will be good to go. I asked my husband to ask the sales assistant for a discount as the box / packaging was so severly damaged. The sales assistant ripped the package from my husbands hands and threw it back on the shelve with this statement :- "we do not give discount; I will place it on display"
1) IF she was nice about it; I would probably have taken the pump as is and paid that amount; although I would have been unhappy about the packaging
2) On exactly what display did she want to place it? There was no other pumps like that one to sell!
We left the shop and I bought an medela pump across the street at Toys R US. I will not go back to Baby City if that is the way customers are treated!
