I purchased a full piece of biltong from Food Lover's Market Nicolway Centre, and was surprised when I opened the bag back at the office, to see the biltong swimming in oil. On returning it to the manager, Tim, they fobbed off my claim by saying it was oil from the fat of the meat. However when I selected my full piece of biltong it was slightly tender to the touch, as if it were still a little pink inside. Imagine my disguset when I had a bag full of oil and meaty that looked very dry. I can only conclude that they oil their biltong to keep it looking fresh and feeling supple to the touch. I also said to both managers that I have NEVER encountered oil of that nature in biltong. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE A PIECE OF BILTONG FROM FOOD LOVERS EVER EVER EVER AGAIN. IN FACT I MAY DECIDE TO BOYCOTT THE CHAIN INDEFINITELY. I WAS VERY DISGUSTED AT HOW THE STORE MANAGERS HANDLED MY COMPLAINT. THE OTHER MANAGER EVEN "PLAYED DUMB" WHEN I ASKED HIM TO PUT HIS HAND INTO THE PLASTIC BAG IN WHICH THE BROWN BAG WAS STORED - TO OBSERVE THE SHEER VOLUME OF OIL FROM THE BILTONG. PLAIN DISGUSTING - THE BILTONG, THE MANAGERS & THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE.
