Unapproved debit orde

I recently noticed that an amount of R399.00 that was debited from my current account on 02 December 2013. I contacted Standard Bank to investigate where it was coming from and they confirmed that it was from "Personalised Systems and Services" at contact number 012 663 5662. When I contacted them on 14 January 2014, they said that they sell software to distributers and the company that is deducting money from me is "Golden Direct Marketing" on 031 829 3698. When I called this Golden Direct Marketing, there was no response. I did not authorise anyone to deduct this money and the bank told me that they are not able to reverse the money as this was deducted 40 days ago.

My question is, should I be punished for not being aware as the bank never notified me via sms as they usually do notify me when deductions go through my account.
