I went into the Montagu branch of Lewis Stores to buy a bar fridge. The staff demanded my ID number even when I stated it is a cash transaction. They would not sell me the fridge when I refused to provide my ID number. When I asked for the reason for this, they could not provide me with a valid reason. I became suspicious when they kept on demanding that I need to provide my ID number for the cash transaction. With ID rife in South Africa I can not understand why Lewis Stores need an ID number for a cash transaction.
