This is just a general complaint about the appalling customer experience that I and other black African people have come to be subjected to at this new look Exclusive Books. The moment you enter the store you have to contend with one of their security guards following you all around the store as if you were some potential! Worst while browsing you also get accosted by the store's assistants. One of them yesterday actually patronizingly asked if he could help me with something. "Help me with 'something'? ", I mean really for what other "something" would I go into Exclusive Books for other than for reading material? What I find absolutely exasperating about this whole intrusive behaviour by the store's guards and its assistants is that in all my visits to the store not once have I ever witnessed it directed towards customers who aren't black Africans. I had a R700 gift voucher that I had to redeem yesterday but left the store without buying anything on account of the unpleasant shopping experience. I used to be a regular shopper at this store and until such time that this profiling is addressed my black African associates and I have vowed not to patronise it ever again.
