Eturn of faulty cellphone

I purchased a Nokia Asha cellphone from Foshini Grahamstown, last week tuesday, and returned it today (6 days later) as the unit's battery doesnt last a full day. The phone is only used for calls/no apps or internet browsing and it was charged for the full 8 hours recommended.
I asked that the unit be replaced and the consultant told me that it had to be sent to Vodacom which takes about 2 weeks and that they cannot refund me or replace the phone. I queried this as I thought that a customer could insist on refund or replacement if goods were faulty in terms of the consumer protection act but Germaine who was serving me as well as Eunice who is apparently the Cellphone consultant said not?
I am extremely upset as I am out of pocket R699 with no cellphone for apparently 2 weeks. I do not want a repaired cellphone back as I paid for a new functioning telephone and not one that needs to be repaired 6 days after purchase
