I bought a sideboard from Rochester about six months ago. The salesman asked me for my contact details, and I told him that I didn't want any advertising UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. He assured me that my details were just so that I could be contacted if there was a problem with the delivery.
On Friday I received a SPAM text message advertising a sale. This text was illegal because it didn't contain an OPT OUT clause.
Today, Monday 25th, I received another SPAM text message. This time with an OPT OUT clause.
1) I SPECIFICALLY instructed that I do not want to be contacted for advertising purposes
2) I absolutely REFUSE to pay for a text message to get you to stop harassing me with your spam. I believe that expecting me to PAY to get you to stop advertising to me AGAINST MY WILL is tantamount to extortion.
3) I travel overseas regularly. If you send me a text message THAT I DON'T WANT IN THE FIRST PLACE, I have to pay for the international forwarding of that text, and in some countries it's expensive.
I hereby notify Rochester that if I receive any further unsolicited correspondence, I will be invoicing them for my time, and any other expenses that I incur in dealing with it.
