In May this year, it was my son's birthday. He was turning four at the time. We decided that we would get him a games consol as he always liked watching his brother play on his.
We went to Hirsch's in Meadowdale, and approached the gaming counter for advice. We explained that my son was turning 4, and we needed something that would not be too complicated, and that he would be able to play. For some reason, we were told to buy the Nintendo DS Lite as it came with a brain game that would be perfect for him. We bought the game, which was more than R2000 at the time, and gave it to him for his birthday. What the salesman conveniently forgot to mention was the fact that to play the game my son would need to be able to read and write. Need I mention once again that my son is 4. The salesman knew he was 4. He cannot read and write.
So, this year, for Christmas, he will be getting a leap-pad, which after speaking to numerous other retailers appears to be what the salesperson should have recommended. And we will not be buying it, or anything else from Hirsch's ever again.
I need to trust that my supplier is not simply trying to maximise their profits.
