I purchased a kettle at Makro Montagu Gardens in 2012, it worked for 6 months and then wouldn't boil properly. I was due to go in for my babies delivery and went to Marko Cape Gate to sort it out. The kettle cost R100 so I was surprised they could see from proof of purchase it was newish and in clean condition and still wanted to send it to the manufacturer to check the problem. I told them well the baby wont have bottles and got a credit slip and bought another one. My baby was 5 weeks old, I turned my back on the new kettle and heard a loud bang. The kettle had exploded and taken out a piece of my kitchen unit door. I was lucky baby wasn't hurt as hot water only hit my back. I then got in the car and took the kettle back to Cape Gate branch, there was no sympathy and they wanted to again send the kettle in for assessment, I asked how I would feed baby? I told them I was making her a bottle and the explosion happened and got a credit note and went to buy a Sunbeam, again paying in. Its now 4 months old and rusting. I cant afford to be told to let it be assessed as baby needs milk and this is getting expensive for me, never mind dangerous for baby (rust/hot water exploding)
